CALL FOR PAPERS

Linked employer-employee data (LEED) is now well established as a key source of information for empirical research in all fields of economics. The use of these data has become more widespread with the continuous improvements in computational capacity and the development of new econometric methods that deal with the challenges these data pose. LEED provide a natural ground for the study of workplace organization, compensation structure, wage and employment mobility, the relationship between firms' outcomes and workers' characteristics, but also international trade, the transmission of monetary policy, the impact of fiscal policy on market outcomes and industrial organization studies of market behavior. However, the information content of LEED can only be fully explored by bringing together the new econometric techniques and the lessons from the economic analysis of markets. To this end, ISEG-UTL is organizing a Workshop on recent research developments based on LEED.

We aim to promote the interaction of researchers by creating a forum for the discussion of applied and theoretical contributions in economics and the role of LEED in opening new research paths. The workshop will have three keynote lectures by Gerard Pfann, Maastricht University, Lorenzo Cappellari, Catholic University Milan, and Steve Machin, University College London.

The workshop will be coupled with a summer school on labor economics with a strong emphasis on the usage of LEED applied to the Portuguese economy. The summer school will have the duration of 12 hours and will take place in 24-27 June, 2013. Participants in the conference can register in the summer school at no extra cost, but places are limited.

The scientific committee is composed by Ana Rute Cardoso, Mário Centeno, Vítor Escária, Elsa Fontainha, Francisco Lima, Álvaro Novo, Miguel Portela, Carlos Farinha Rodrigues, Fatima Suleman, and José Manuel Varejão.

We encourage researchers using LEED, including PhD students, to submit a paper to this Workshop. The deadline for paper submission is April 26, 2013. Applicants will be notified about the status of their submissions by May 10, 2013.

We would very much appreciate if you could disseminate this event in your Institution.

All correspondence should be addressed to leed2013@iseg.utl.pt.
